1. INTRODUCTION
Welcome to TrashMart.
This Privacy Policy explains how TrashMart ("TrashMart", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, stores, protects and otherwise processes personal information when you use the TrashMart application, website and related services (collectively, the "Platform").
TrashMart is currently operated by an individual and is intended primarily for users in Nigeria.
We are committed to handling personal information responsibly and transparently.
This Privacy Policy should be read together with the TrashMart Terms and Conditions.
By using TrashMart, you acknowledge that you have read this Privacy Policy and understand how your information may be processed as described below.
Where applicable law requires a specific form of consent, notice or authorization, TrashMart will seek to comply with those requirements.
2. WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR INFORMATION?
TrashMart is currently operated by an individual based in Nigeria, acting as the controller of the personal information described in this Policy. The operator's full legal name and address are available on request using the contact details below, and will be provided where applicable law requires them to be disclosed.
Email: trashmart.app@gmail.com
For privacy-related questions, requests or complaints, you may contact us using the email address above.
As TrashMart develops, its legal structure may change. If ownership or operation of the Platform changes, appropriate information will be provided where required by applicable law.
3. WHAT INFORMATION DO WE COLLECT?
The information we collect depends on how you use TrashMart.
We may collect information in the following categories.
3.1 Account Information
When you create an account, we may collect information such as:
- name;
- email address;
- account identifier;
- profile information;
- profile photograph where provided;
- account creation date;
- account status;
- verification status;
- account preferences;
- authentication information; and
- other information necessary to operate your account.
Some information may be required to create or maintain an account.
4. INFORMATION YOU CHOOSE TO PROVIDE
You may provide additional information when using TrashMart.
This may include:
- listing descriptions;
- wanted-post descriptions;
- photographs;
- prices;
- item conditions;
- item categories;
- recyclable-material information;
- community information;
- profile information;
- reviews;
- report descriptions;
- verification information;
- support requests;
- messages to other users;
- and other content you voluntarily submit.
You should avoid including unnecessary sensitive personal information in listings, messages or other publicly visible content.
5. LISTING INFORMATION
When you create a listing, TrashMart may collect and store information associated with that listing, including:
- title;
- description;
- photographs;
- category;
- price;
- condition;
- location information;
- community association;
- creation date;
- listing status;
- engagement information;
- and other information necessary to display and manage the listing.
Some listing information may be publicly visible to other users.
Users should therefore avoid placing unnecessary personal information in listing descriptions or photographs.
6. WANTED POSTS
When you create a wanted post, we may collect and store:
- title;
- description;
- category;
- location information;
- community association;
- creation date;
- status;
- photographs where supported;
- and other information necessary to operate the feature.
Wanted posts may be visible to other users.
7. MESSAGES
TrashMart may provide messaging functionality that allows users to communicate with one another.
Messages may contain personal information voluntarily shared by users.
Depending on the Platform's technical architecture, we may store information associated with messages, including:
- sender identifier;
- recipient identifier;
- message content;
- timestamps;
- conversation identifier;
- attachments or images where supported;
- message status;
- and other technical information necessary to operate messaging.
Users should avoid unnecessarily sharing sensitive personal information through messages.
TrashMart does not represent that private messages are a suitable place to share passwords, financial credentials, identity documents or other highly sensitive information.
8. LOCATION INFORMATION
TrashMart may offer location-based features.
Where you provide permission, TrashMart may collect your device's location information, including GPS-derived coordinates.
Location information may be used to:
- determine relevant communities;
- display nearby listings;
- calculate approximate distance;
- provide location-based marketplace features;
- personalize community content;
- improve local discovery;
- and support other location-dependent functionality.
Location access is generally optional unless a particular feature requires it.
You may be able to control location permissions through your device settings.
If you deny location access, certain location-based features may be unavailable or less accurate.
9. COMMUNITY LOCATION PROCESSING
TrashMart may use location information to determine whether a user or listing falls within a defined community.
Communities may be geographically defined using:
- a centre coordinate; and
- a defined geographic radius or boundary.
When a user creates a listing and has granted appropriate location access, TrashMart may use the relevant coordinates to determine which communities the listing falls within.
A listing may belong to multiple communities if it falls within multiple community boundaries.
Community associations may be used to provide features such as:
- community-specific discovery;
- community marketplace content;
- local news;
- nearby listings;
- distance-based sorting; and
- other community features.
10. LOCATION RETENTION AND DISPLAY
TrashMart may store location information associated with listings or other Platform activity for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the relevant functionality.
Where possible and appropriate, TrashMart may display approximate or community-level location information rather than precise GPS coordinates to other users.
Precise location information should not ordinarily be publicly displayed to other users merely because a listing has been created.
Users should nevertheless exercise caution when providing location information and should not include their exact home address in publicly visible content unless they intentionally choose to do so.
The precise technical implementation of location storage and display may change as TrashMart develops.
11. REVIEWS AND RATINGS
TrashMart may collect and store reviews submitted by eligible users.
A review may contain:
- a numerical star rating;
- written review text;
- reviewer identifier;
- reviewed user's identifier;
- information establishing review eligibility;
- transaction-related information;
- timestamp;
- and other information necessary to prevent review manipulation.
TrashMart may separately store aggregate rating information, including:
- average rating;
- number of reviews used to calculate the average;
- individual rating values;
- and associated review text.
This allows TrashMart to display information such as an average rating and the number of reviews from which that average was calculated.
Reviews may be publicly visible.
12. TRANSACTION CONFIRMATION
TrashMart may provide a system through which users can indicate that a listing has been sold.
Where a seller identifies a relevant conversation as the conversation through which a sale occurred, TrashMart may process information necessary to allow the other party to confirm or reject the transaction.
This information may be used to:
- establish review eligibility;
- reduce fraudulent reviews;
- maintain marketplace integrity;
- and improve the reliability of reputation information.
TrashMart does not process the payment itself merely because a transaction has been confirmed.
13. VERIFICATION INFORMATION
TrashMart may offer account verification.
If you apply for verification, we may request information reasonably necessary to assess the application.
Depending on the verification system, this may include:
- name;
- contact information;
- information about your identity;
- account information;
- documents or other evidence;
- photographs;
- business information where applicable;
- or other information reasonably required for verification.
The exact information required will depend on the verification method used by TrashMart.
Verification information may be accessible only to authorized persons or systems involved in the verification process.
TrashMart will seek to limit collection of verification information to what is reasonably necessary for the purpose.
14. REPORTS
TrashMart may collect reports submitted through the Platform.
A report may contain information such as:
- reporter's user ID;
- reported user's user ID;
- reported post ID;
- reported message ID;
- selected report categories;
- written explanation;
- timestamp;
- and information necessary to investigate the report.
Report categories may include, for example:
- spam;
- racist or discriminatory content;
- illicit content;
- fake item;
- misleading listing;
- misleading photographs;
- or other categories made available by TrashMart.
Reports may be used to:
- investigate suspected violations;
- protect users;
- moderate content;
- prevent abuse;
- detect repeated misconduct;
- enforce Platform rules;
- and comply with legal obligations.
15. REPORTING ABUSE
TrashMart may process information about reporting behaviour to prevent abuse of the reporting system.
For example, TrashMart may maintain an internal account attribute indicating whether an account is currently permitted to submit reports.
This may be used to prevent:
- mass false reporting;
- coordinated reporting abuse;
- harassment through reports;
- and attempts to manipulate moderation.
16. PROFILE INFORMATION
TrashMart may provide profile pages allowing users to view information about another user.
Depending on the Platform's features, a profile may display:
- username or name;
- profile photograph;
- verification status;
- average rating;
- number of reviews;
- listings;
- wanted posts;
- community-related information;
- and other information the user has made available through the Platform.
Users should understand that information included in a public profile may be visible to other users.
17. LIKES AND ENGAGEMENT
TrashMart may collect information about interactions with listings and other content.
This may include:
- likes;
- views;
- interactions;
- saves or similar features where available;
- and other engagement signals.
These signals may be used to:
- provide ranking and sorting;
- display popular content;
- personalize discovery;
- improve recommendations;
- identify popular community content;
- and improve the Platform.
18. NEWS AND COMMUNITY CONTENT
TrashMart may provide news and informational content.
The Platform may display:
- worldwide news;
- environmental information;
- recycling-related information;
- community achievements;
- local community stories;
- and other relevant content.
Where content is personalized to a user's community, TrashMart may use approximate location or community association to determine which community content to display.
19. DEVICE AND TECHNICAL INFORMATION
When you use TrashMart, we may automatically receive certain technical information.
Depending on the Platform and services used, this may include:
- device type;
- operating system;
- application version;
- IP address;
- timestamps;
- network information;
- crash information;
- diagnostic information;
- authentication information;
- push notification tokens; and
- other technical identifiers.
This information may be used to:
- operate the Platform;
- maintain security;
- troubleshoot problems;
- investigate crashes;
- prevent abuse;
- improve performance;
- and understand technical issues.
19.1 Push Notifications
If you allow TrashMart to send notifications, your device is issued a notification token by the operating system or its messaging service, and that token is stored against your account so that notifications can be delivered to your device.
Notification tokens are used only to deliver notifications relating to your use of TrashMart, such as a new message from another user. A token identifies a device installation rather than you personally, and more than one token may be stored where you use TrashMart on more than one device.
Tokens are removed when they stop working, and when you sign out of TrashMart on that device.
You can withdraw permission for notifications at any time in your device settings. Doing so does not otherwise affect your use of the Platform.
20. LOGS AND SECURITY INFORMATION
TrashMart may maintain technical logs relating to use of the Platform.
Logs may include information such as:
- account identifiers;
- IP addresses;
- timestamps;
- requests;
- errors;
- authentication events;
- security events;
- and other technical information.
Logs may be used for:
- security;
- fraud prevention;
- debugging;
- abuse detection;
- legal compliance;
- and Platform maintenance.
21. COOKIES AND SIMILAR TECHNOLOGIES
If TrashMart uses cookies, local storage, SDKs or similar technologies, these may be used to:
- maintain sessions;
- remember preferences;
- provide functionality;
- analyze performance;
- improve security;
- and understand Platform usage.
The exact technologies used may change as TrashMart develops.
Where applicable, users may be able to control certain technologies through their device or browser settings.
22. HOW WE USE PERSONAL INFORMATION
We may use information we collect to:
Provide the Platform
Including:
- creating accounts;
- displaying listings;
- enabling messaging;
- enabling reviews;
- providing search;
- providing community features;

Including where we are required to:
- respond to lawful requests;
- comply with legal obligations;
- preserve evidence;
- investigate unlawful activity;
- or protect legal rights.
23. LEGAL BASES FOR PROCESSING
Where applicable data-protection law requires a lawful basis for processing personal information, TrashMart will seek to rely on an appropriate lawful basis.
Depending on the circumstances, this may include:
- consent;
- performance of a contract or steps requested before entering into a contract;
- compliance with a legal obligation;
- protection of vital interests where applicable;
- legitimate interests where legally available; and
- other lawful bases recognized by applicable law.
The appropriate lawful basis may differ depending on the specific information and purpose.
24. CONSENT
Where TrashMart relies on consent, users may have the ability to withdraw that consent where permitted by applicable law.
Withdrawal of consent does not necessarily affect processing that occurred lawfully before withdrawal.
Some functionality may become unavailable if the information required to provide that functionality is no longer available.
Where consent is required by law for a particular processing activity, TrashMart will seek to obtain it in an appropriate manner.
25. CHILDREN AND USERS UNDER 18
TrashMart is intended for users who are at least 13 years old.
Users under 18 may use TrashMart subject to applicable law and any additional safeguards or consent requirements that may apply to them.
Where applicable law requires parental or guardian consent for a user's use of TrashMart or for particular processing of their personal data, such consent must be obtained.
TrashMart may implement age-related safeguards where reasonably necessary.
Users must not falsely represent their age.
If TrashMart becomes aware that it has collected personal information in circumstances where collection was unlawful or where legally required consent was not obtained, it may take appropriate steps, which may include deleting or restricting the information, subject to applicable law.
Parents or guardians who believe that a minor has provided personal information to TrashMart in circumstances where it should not have been provided may contact:
26. HOW WE SHARE INFORMATION
TrashMart does not sell users' personal information merely because they use the Platform.
We may share information where reasonably necessary with:
Other users
Information may be visible to other users when necessary to operate public Platform features.
For example:
- listings;
- profile information;
- wanted posts;
- reviews;
- ratings;
- verification status;
- and community-related information.
Service providers
TrashMart may use third-party service providers to provide infrastructure and functionality.
These providers may process information on TrashMart's behalf for purposes such as:
- hosting;
- authentication;
- storage;
- database services;
- analytics;
- communications;
- security;
- error monitoring;
- and other technical services.
Legal authorities
We may disclose information where:
- required by law;
- required by a valid legal process;
- necessary to comply with a lawful request;
- necessary to protect users;
- necessary to investigate suspected unlawful activity; or
- otherwise permitted by applicable law.
Professional advisers
Where reasonably necessary, information may be shared with professional advisers such as lawyers, accountants, auditors or other advisers, subject to appropriate confidentiality obligations where applicable.
Business transfers
If TrashMart is transferred, sold, merged, reorganized or otherwise changes ownership or structure, information may be transferred as part of that transaction where legally permitted.
27. FIREBASE AND CLOUD SERVICE PROVIDERS
TrashMart may use third-party cloud infrastructure, including Firebase or related services, to provide features such as:
- authentication;
- databases;
- storage;
- messaging;
- hosting;
- security;
- and application functionality.
Information processed through these services may be handled according to the relevant provider's infrastructure and security practices.
TrashMart will seek to configure third-party services appropriately and limit access to personal information to what is reasonably necessary.
The specific services used may change over time.
28. DATA RETENTION
TrashMart does not necessarily delete information immediately when you stop using a feature or delete a post.
Information may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected.
Retention may be necessary for:
- providing services;
- maintaining transaction history;
- reviews;
- account security;
- fraud prevention;
- moderation;
- dispute resolution;
- legal compliance;
- regulatory requirements;
- technical records;
- backups;
- or legitimate operational purposes.
Different categories of information may have different retention periods.
TrashMart will seek to avoid retaining personal information for longer than reasonably necessary where applicable law requires deletion or limitation.
29. DELETED LISTINGS
When a listing is sold, donated, deleted or otherwise removed from active marketplace discovery, TrashMart may retain associated information for a period of time.
For example, information may be retained to:
- maintain the associated message conversation;
- support transaction confirmation;
- determine review eligibility;
- investigate reports;
- prevent fraud;
- resolve disputes;
- or comply with legal requirements.
A listing being removed from marketplace search therefore does not necessarily mean that all associated database records are immediately destroyed.
30. ACCOUNT DELETION
Users may request deletion of their TrashMart account.
Account deletion may result in removal or anonymization of information where appropriate.
However, certain information may need to be retained where legally permitted or required, including information necessary for:
- fraud prevention;
- legal compliance;
- dispute resolution;
- security;
- enforcement;
- accounting;
- regulatory obligations;
- or legitimate record-keeping.
Where complete deletion is not possible for a legitimate reason, TrashMart will seek to limit continued processing to what is reasonably necessary.
31. DATA SECURITY
TrashMart takes reasonable measures intended to protect personal information from:
- unauthorized access;
- unauthorized disclosure;
- loss;
- misuse;
- alteration;
- or destruction.
Security measures may include:
- authentication controls;
- access restrictions;
- technical safeguards;
- secure communications;
- database security;
- monitoring;
- and appropriate administrative controls.
However, no online service can guarantee absolute security.
Users are responsible for maintaining the security of their account credentials and should notify TrashMart if they suspect unauthorized access.
32. DATA BREACHES
If TrashMart becomes aware of a personal-data breach, we will assess the incident and take steps required by applicable law.
Depending on the circumstances, this may include:
- investigating the incident;
- containing the breach;
- securing affected systems;
- documenting the incident;
- notifying relevant authorities;
- and notifying affected individuals where required.
33. INTERNATIONAL DATA TRANSFERS
Because TrashMart may use cloud infrastructure and service providers located in different countries, personal information may potentially be processed outside Nigeria.
Where applicable law regulates international transfers of personal information, TrashMart will seek to comply with the applicable requirements.
This may include appropriate safeguards, contractual protections, adequacy mechanisms or other lawful transfer mechanisms where required.
34. YOUR PRIVACY RIGHTS
Depending on applicable law and your circumstances, you may have rights concerning your personal information.
These may include the right to:
- request access to personal information;
- request correction of inaccurate information;
- request deletion where legally applicable;
- request restriction of certain processing;
- object to certain processing;
- withdraw consent where consent is the legal basis;
- request information about processing;
- and exercise other rights provided by applicable law.
These rights may be subject to legal exceptions and limitations.
35. HOW TO EXERCISE YOUR RIGHTS
To make a privacy request, contact:
Your request should include enough information for us to understand:
- who you are;
- what account or information the request concerns;
- what action you are requesting;
- and any other information reasonably necessary to process the request.
TrashMart may need to verify your identity before responding to certain requests.
This is intended to prevent unauthorized individuals from obtaining, changing or deleting another person's information.
36. RESPONSE TO PRIVACY REQUESTS
TrashMart will seek to respond to valid privacy requests within the period required by applicable law.
Where additional time is legally permitted or reasonably necessary, TrashMart may communicate the relevant information.
If a request cannot be fulfilled, TrashMart will seek to explain the reason where legally required or appropriate.
37. PUBLIC INFORMATION
Certain information is intentionally displayed publicly because it is necessary for Marketplace functionality.
This may include:
- listings;
- listing photographs;
- wanted posts;
- profile information;
- reviews;
- ratings;
- verification status;
- and other content that users choose or are required to publish.
Users should carefully consider what they publish publicly.
Once information is publicly displayed, other users may be able to copy, screenshot or otherwise reproduce it.
TrashMart cannot guarantee that information voluntarily made public will never be reproduced outside the Platform.
38. INFORMATION ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE
You must not provide TrashMart with another person's personal information unless you have a lawful basis to do so.
For example, users should not upload:
- another person's identity document;
- private address;
- private telephone number;
- financial information;
- or other sensitive information
unless there is a legitimate reason and appropriate legal basis.
If you provide information about another person, you remain responsible for ensuring that doing so is lawful.
39. USER-GENERATED CONTENT
Content submitted to TrashMart may contain personal information.
Users are responsible for considering whether their content reveals:
- home addresses;
- telephone numbers;
- email addresses;
- identity documents;
- financial information;
- school information;
- passwords;
- or other sensitive information.
TrashMart cannot guarantee that users will not voluntarily disclose personal information in their own content.
40. THIRD-PARTY LINKS
TrashMart may contain links to third-party websites or services.
TrashMart is not responsible for the privacy practices of independent third parties.
Users should review the privacy policies of third-party services before providing personal information.
41. THIRD-PARTY PAYMENT SERVICES
TrashMart currently does not provide in-app payment processing.
If users choose to arrange payment through an external payment provider, that provider may collect and process personal and financial information according to its own privacy policy.
TrashMart does not ordinarily receive or store complete payment credentials used through external payment providers.
42. ANALYTICS AND PERFORMANCE
TrashMart may use technical analytics or diagnostic information to understand how the Platform performs.
This may help us identify:
- crashes;
- bugs;
- slow features;
- frequently used functionality;
- technical compatibility problems;
- and other performance issues.
Where analytics tools are used, TrashMart will seek to configure them appropriately and in accordance with applicable privacy requirements.
43. ADVERTISING
TrashMart may introduce advertising in the future.
If advertising technology involves the processing of personal information beyond what is currently described in this Policy, TrashMart may update this Privacy Policy and provide any additional notices or choices required by law.
44. MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS
TrashMart may send service-related communications necessary to operate the Platform.
If TrashMart introduces promotional or marketing communications, users will be provided with appropriate choices and controls where required by law.
Users should not be required to consent to unnecessary marketing merely to use essential Platform functionality where applicable law prohibits such a practice.
45. AUTOMATED PROCESSING
TrashMart may use automated systems to assist with:
- search;
- ranking;
- recommendations;
- spam detection;
- fraud detection;
- moderation;
- community discovery;
- and other Platform functions.
Where applicable law grants users rights concerning solely automated decisions producing legal or similarly significant effects, TrashMart will seek to comply with those requirements.
46. COMMUNITY PERSONALIZATION
TrashMart may personalize parts of the Platform based on the communities associated with a user.
For example, the Platform may display popular or relevant listings from communities associated with the user's current location.
Community personalization may involve:
- approximate location;
- community membership;
- listing engagement;
- category;
- recency;
- and other non-sensitive Platform information.
TrashMart may introduce some randomness into content selection so that users do not repeatedly see identical content.
47. DATA MINIMIZATION
TrashMart aims to collect and process information that is reasonably necessary for the functionality or purposes described in this Policy.
We do not intend to collect personal information merely because it is technically possible to do so.
As the Platform develops, TrashMart may review information collection practices to determine whether particular information remains necessary.
48. ACCURACY OF INFORMATION
TrashMart relies partly on information provided directly by users.
Users should keep their account information accurate and up to date.
You may request correction of inaccurate personal information where appropriate.
TrashMart may correct or remove information where it reasonably believes that the information is inaccurate, fraudulent, unlawful or otherwise inappropriate.
49. PRIVACY OF MINORS
TrashMart recognizes that younger users may require additional protection.
Users under 18 should avoid sharing unnecessary personal information publicly.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to discuss:
- safe marketplace behaviour;
- meeting strangers safely;
- avoiding unnecessary personal information;
- avoiding financial scams;
- and responsible use of messaging.
TrashMart may implement additional safeguards for younger users as the Platform develops.
50. LEGAL COMPLIANCE
TrashMart may process personal information where reasonably necessary to:
- comply with applicable laws;
- respond to lawful requests;
- cooperate with competent authorities;
- investigate suspected unlawful activity;

- fraudulent listings;
- fake accounts;
- payment scams;
- review manipulation;
- reporting abuse;
- impersonation;
- spam;
- account takeover;
- malicious activity;
- and other Platform abuse.
This may involve analysing information across multiple interactions associated with an account.
Where legally permitted, information may be retained for an appropriate period to prevent repeated abuse.
52. LEGAL REQUESTS
TrashMart may disclose information where required or permitted by applicable law.
This may include requests from:
- courts;
- law-enforcement agencies;
- regulators;
- government authorities;
- or other competent bodies.
TrashMart will seek to limit disclosures to information reasonably relevant to the lawful request where appropriate.
53. BUSINESS TRANSFERS
If TrashMart is:
- sold;
- transferred;
- merged;
- reorganized;
- acquired;
- incorporated into another organization;
- or otherwise changes ownership,
personal information may be transferred as part of the relevant transaction where legally permitted.
Users will receive appropriate notice where required.
54. CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY
TrashMart may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.
Changes may be necessary because of:
- new features;
- changes to data processing;
- legal requirements;
- security developments;
- changes to service providers;
- or changes to how TrashMart operates.
The "Last Updated" date at the top of this Policy will be updated when material changes are made.
Where a change is material, you will be asked within the application to read and accept the updated Policy before continuing to use TrashMart, and a record of that acceptance will be kept against your account.
Where required by law, TrashMart will provide additional notice or obtain consent.
